Healthy Children and the Chiropractor

Why Take a Healthy Child to the Chiropractor?

A lot of people think they only need to go to the doctors when are sick. But that isn’t true. Getting well checks is a very important part of staying healthy. Neuro-Structural Chiropractic is a type of preventative care that we should not be ignoring.
An interesting thing to think about, the first spinal injury a person receives is shortly, if not during, birth. Think about the trauma of birth, the hazards of learning to crawl or worse, walk. Then lets add on the early years of elementary school and the sports, playing, rough housing, learning to ride a bike. Phew! That’s a lot of slips, bumps and falls. Now guess what the average age a person is when they first get their spines and nervous systems checked. 40 years old!

So why take a healthy child to the chiropractor? Well most parents want to know how their child is developing over the years. Spinal health is integral to every form of physical performance, a check against scoliosis (which I am shocked is not screened for in NC schools) and proper nerve functions.

The spine and brain make up the Central Nervous System – The Master Controller of every function in your body. We get our kids’ teeth checked, their eyes, even their hearing – Why aren’t we getting their nervous systems checked?
Nerve irritation or as its properly known, Vertebral Subluxation, can occur at any stage and is a normal part of life. This may be the result of physical, chemical and emotional stressors from things like bad posture, prolonged postures, sleeping on our stomachs, bumps and falls, poor diet, dehydration, exposure to chemicals and toxins, and stress and anxiety.

According to the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA) One of the most common reasons parents seek care for their child is trauma from an injury of some sort and “Regular chiropractic checkups can identify potential spinal injury from these traumas, make the correction early in life and help avoid many of the health complaints seen later in adults.” Another reason for care is the resolution of a particular symptom or condition. Parents seek care for conditions such as colic, ear infections, asthma, allergies and headaches (to name a few).
