Is this a parent’s worst nightmare come true?
“Unless we put medical freedom into the Constitution, the time will come when medicine will organize into an underground dictatorship….To restrict the art of healing to one class of men and deny equal privileges to others will constitute the Bastille of medical science. All such laws are un-American and despotic and have no place in a republic….The Constitution of this republic should make special privilege for medical freedom as well as religious freedom.”
– Dr. Benjamin Rush, signer of the Declaration of Independence

The state of California has just passed bill AB499, which will permit minor children as young as 12 years old to be vaccinated with sexually transmitted disease vaccines like Gardasil without parental knowledge or parental consent. This means that if you live in California, school or medical personnel would be allowed to vaccinate your child against an STD without your ever knowing it.
At issue, of course, is whether 12-year-olds are mature enough to fully analyze the benefits versus risks of vaccination (or any medical treatment for that matter), or recognize the alternatives to STD prevention, such as abstinence. Meanwhile, a child could suffer a vaccine reaction and the parent, not knowing the child had been vaccinated, could mistake it for the flu or another condition, delaying getting help until it is too late.
But, perhaps the greatest issue of all is whether this law violates your basic right to be involved in important decisions regarding your child’s health.

It would seem that there is a certain trend in the US that isn’t being seen elsewhere in the world, and it seems to stem from profit-making. That is the increase of vaccinations in the name of public health. Honestly, there is no empirical data on the use of vaccinations to prevent illnesses, and the vaccine schedule has been increased greatly over the years since the 1970’s. To think, chicken pox is now something that children are vaccinated against, and no longer will they be given a chance to develop a natural immunity to the disease. This will increase the chance of these individuals of having other problems later on, like shingles, later on in life.Evidence also supports that vaccines are dangerous to infants, and even the young adults getting vaccines like Gardisil (Along with other adverse reactions, 68 girls have died as a result of this shot so far, according to the CDC report).
Parents need to ask themselves a lot of serious questions when deciding whether or not they should vaccinate their children. It would be the advice of this healthcare provider to say that they should think about their own vaccination history, and whether or not they had any problems – Their vaccine schedule may have been a better one. Ask your pediatrician to wait longer and vaccinate less often. Think about whether or not your family can afford time from work when your child gets the chicken pox, or the flu. These are all things that need consideration in making these choices.
